Linseed is Extraordinary; We Do Ordinary Things With It.

As you may have gathered, at Flax Farm we are passionate about linseed!
The plant and its properties are truly amazing in so many ways. Look at the flowers: individually they are beautiful and to see a field of flax flowers in full bloom in June, shimmering in the summer sunshine, is an incredible sight, our photos can’t capture the essence of Nature at its fabulous best.
The seeds are very versatile. They can be eaten whole, they can be ground into meal or they can be made into oil. Each process releases different health-giving elements but all provide a rich source of omega-3 which is so valuable for building healthy cells and improving the immune and digestive systems.

We gently cold press the seeds in the good old-fashioned way to produce the purest, smoothest oil. We grind the seeds into a fine meal using a minimum of pressure and no heat or synthetic treatments. The meal is packaged as it is, golden or bronze, or mixed into our very own Flax Farm porridge and muesli. And of course we make our famous Flaxjacks© which are packed full of goodness and taste extraordinarily good.

How you can best use linseed depends on what particular health and wellness challenges you face, but we know that using it regularly can make a wonderful difference to your life: you will look healthier, you will feel healthier and guess what? You will be healthier!

Even if we hadn’t experienced it for ourselves we would have been convinced by the enthusiasm of our customers. So many have used linseed to overcome health problems or just because they'd heard "linseed is good for you" and found it worked. Over and over again they say, "Linseed is amazing."

Linseed really is amazing, extraordinary – we do very un-amazing and ordinary things with it. And perhaps that is part of the magic.

Some of the things that we think are so good about Flax Farm Linseed

  • Good flavour
We only use varieties of linseed (aka Flax) for high omega-3 content and the best flavour. We then handle the linseed with great care to preserve that flavour. Flavour is always our first aim as that is the best measure of the quality of linseed – if it tastes sweet, mild and delicate it is fresh and good.
  • Good for you
The wonderful flavour of our cold-pressed linseed oil and freshly ground linseed meal products means our linseed is through and through good for you. And because it tastes nice, you and your family will enjoy it so it will be easy to get the family eating something that will do them good.
  • Good for the community
We support other local suppliers and trades whenever possible. The linseed left over from cold-pressing the oil is the highest quality animal feed and is used by local farmers.
  • Good for the Environment
Food grown in the English countryside supports the traditional farming methods in small fields which means lots of hedgerows, copses, ditches and headlands that provide the rich habitat needed for the rich biodiversity of local wildlife.
Buying UK grown linseed means you have saved the food miles of importing it and obviously it means it’s fresher too. Fewer food miles means lower carbon emissions, fewer pesticides means more wildlife, minimal packaging means less exploitation of the environment and less landfill.
  • Good for the oceans
Linseed is a wonderful natural fresh source of omega-3. Human beings do very well on plant omega-3; plants are the main source of omega-3 for most of the world’s population. By getting our omega-3 from linseed we are supporting the oceans. The industrialized alternative currently hoovers up fish and krill for omega-3 fish oil supplements which robs the oceans of the food for larger fish, dolphins, whales, puffins and other seabirds. When you chose linseed oil for omega-3 you are supporting the wildlife of the oceans. And your health can benefit too, by choosing plant-based omega-3 as it is naturally purer. The ocean’s fish are contaminated with industrial wastes, like mercury and dioxins which build up in our systems and damage our immune systems. Omega-3 from Flax Farm’s cold-pressed linseed comes from the fields so you can be sure of its purity and health-giving properties.
  • Good at helping you
We found that lots of people don't understand the best way to use linseed in order to improve their health or how to enjoy it as a great tasting ingredient. We have done a lot of studying to understand the science of linseed so we can help you to get the form of linseed that best suit your needs. And so that you can enjoy it we have worked hard at developing recipes to share so linseed can be a great experience for families like yours and those with needing special diets.

Exercise                  A balanced diet and effective exercise both aid good health

Linseed is just part of a balanced healthy life, exercise matters too.  People were designed to be active.  The body relies on us being active to make many of the body's systems work properly. At Flax Farm we have been utterly inspired by Anthony Aurelius's sensible easy approach to exercise.  His book "Why Exercise?"  explains why the answer is because it is good for every part of you!  It  is so direct it should make everyone want to do a bit more.  Anthony's new Choi-bo Workout is a masterpiece in enjoyable structured exercise that develops the whole being.  We have tried it, felt the benefits and are now firm fans of increased exercise Anthony style.

The Healing Power of Flax reveals how this important missing nutrient in your diet can help prevent heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, chronic pain, and inflammation. Flax is also an incredibly rich source of a group of compounds, called lignans, that may prevent certain types of cancer, especially breast and prostate cancer.
