Flax Farm Ground Linseed Meal  Ground gold linseed with rhubarb and yoghurt

Flax Farm's Linseed meal is finely ground which increases the surface area and make the meal more digestible. It provides fibre (for digestion) lignans (for hormone balance) and some omega-3.  A typical helping is 2-4 dessertspoons, try to drink an extra glass of water with it.  Linseed usually starts to improve the digestion within three days and needs to be used regularly in the diet.  It takes about a week for the hormone balancing effect when used as an alternative to HRTto start; this is maintained if ground linseed is consumed daily. If linseed meal is used to help reduce monthly symptoms it is best eaten for at least the latter half of the month.

How Much? Getting enough omega-3 in the diet is as easy as adding a daily helping of 1-2 teaspoon of Flax Farm linseed oil to food, ½ teaspoon for children or ¼ teaspoon for toddlers.

How Long will it take to improve health? Flax Farm Whole Linseeds whole bronze linseed

Left whole linseed has very little of the nutritional virtue of ground seed or cold pressed linseed oil.  They  are too tough to digest properly but once ground have all the qualities described above.  Grind to a fine meal using a mortar and pestle (it takes ages) or an electric coffee grinder (it needs cleaning thoroughly because if left the oil goes very sticky)  to get all the benefits.  The normal daily helping is 2-4 heaped tablespoons/25-50g/1-2 ounces.

Linseed as a traditional store cupboard remedy for constipation.  Whole Linseed is a traditional treatment: gentle, bulk forming, naturally  lubricating.  It is useful for young and old alike.  Place two tablespoons of bronze or gold linseed in a glass of warm water allow to swell for a few minutes and drink, use once or twice a day.  If the problem persists consult a doctor. Linseed is unrelated to wheat and is completely gluten-free so can be eaten safely by coeliacs and those with wheat/cereal intolerance.   Linseed is  not a nut nor is it related to any other seeds and is usually tolerated by people with these allergies.  Linseed in all  its forms are very low GI/low carb, it is almost totally free of digestible carbohydrate, which makes it ideal for  diabetics - type 1 and type 2.    People with diabetes, coeliac disease, IBS, nut allergies, wheat intolerance and IBS often find linseed, in all its forms, beneficial in their diet.   Omega-3  provides building blocks for healthy cell growth and  repair, and being anti-inflammatory is soothing to many conditions and over time can help the body reduce the severity of allergic reactions.  Fibre is often limited to people with these conditions so linseed is a good source of fibre in addition it is soothing for the gut and can help protect from problem foods when inadvertently consumed.

HOW QUICKLY TO EXPECT YOUR HEALTH TO IMPROVE . 

Linseed oil can start to improve dry skin within a few days.

Linseed meal usually starts to improve the digestion within four or five days.

Linseed meal can start to balance hormones within five days.

As a treatment for constipation whole linseed is fairly instant and usually takes effect within a day or two.

On other conditions the effects of Linseed oil or the omega-3 from the meal can start to be noticed within as little as a week, or can take a month or more to improve joints, cholesterol, the immune system,  skin conditions, mental health, mood, concentration, metabolism, weight and cravings.   It is reported Linseed oil has been used to improve on mental conditions with almost immediate . But when trying to improve health by correcting the diet it is probably more reasonable to expect to take longer to reverse conditions that where there are dietary factors and imbalances that have built up over time. Don't worry if the improvement of deep seated long-term health problems seems to be gradual, it can be speeded up consuming larger amounts. But linseed oil is a food not a medicine, it works by the body readjusting, rebalancing and correcting itself and shouldn't be expected to have the overnight effect that drugs often have
