Did you know that ground flax can make it easier to control your weight naturally?

It can be hard to imagine that a simple seed could sit at the heart of effective weight-control programmes, but flax supports many of the key mechanisms involved in healthy, natural weight management.
People new to flax are often surprised by how full it makes them feel. For me, it felt as though I’d gained extra willpower and suddenly, keeping my weight under control became easy.
Flax is a wholefood rich in omega-3, insoluble, soluble and fermentable fibres. Together, these help regulate digestion, appetite control and metabolism in a natural way.

Ancient Indian wisdom: a delicious treat that helps burn calories
Traditionally in northern India, where winters are cold, flaxseed is considered a warming food that works like central heating from the inside. It’s the omega-3 in flaxseed that has metabolism-boosting effects, so people burn calories freely, which helps them feel warm. Our Linseed Pinni Laddoo Energy Balls were created as a seasonal real-food treat and they can help keep your weight-control journey on track.
How does flax compare with psyllium and chia?
Compare Flax, psyllium and Chia →
All three seeds have a strong reputation for digestive health, but they work in different ways:
- Psyllium helps you go
- Chia supports hydration and adds fibre variety
- Flax helps you go and gives the gut what it needs to work better overall
We may be biased, but many people agree that ground flaxseed makes an excellent number-one gut health aid.
So keep taking psyllium if it helps and enjoy chia pudding — but including flax in your daily diet provides more omega-3 alongside a wider range of fibre types, offering broader, more complete support for the gut.
Quick flax fact: flax for a glossy coat and waterproofing the plumage
Long before flax became popular for people, it was widely used for animals. Whether for racehorses, show ponies or dogs, flaxseed oil (once commonly called linseed oil) was prized for producing a glossy, healthy coat.
Racing pigeons are still fed flax, for its omega-3, to help their plumage cope better with wet weather. This winter that sounds useful for all of us!
