Flax Allergen Information – Flax Farm Products
Flaxseed and the 14 Major Allergens
Flaxseed is not one of the 14 major allergens that must be declared under UK food labelling regulations. It is unrelated to any of them.
The 14 allergens are: celery, cereals containing gluten (wheat, rye, barley and oats), crustaceans, eggs, fish, lupin, milk, molluscs, mustard, tree nuts, peanuts, sesame seeds, soya, and sulphur dioxide or sulphites.
Can You Be Allergic to Flaxseed?
Although flaxseed is not one of the 14 major allergens, allergic reactions to flaxseed can occur, although they are uncommon. Many foods, even everyday foods such as strawberries and tomatoes, can cause allergic reactions in some people.
Dedicated Flaxseed Production Premises
Our flaxseed oil is pressed and our whole flaxseed milled at dedicated premises where we process only flaxseed. This helps us avoid cross-contamination with other allergens.
Our bakery operates separately.

Flax Farm Bakery
Our bakery uses gluten-free ingredients, including certified gluten-free oats and other naturally gluten-free grains and seeds.
Some ingredients may contain small amounts of sulphur dioxide or sulphites, which are declared on product labels where required. We also use butter in the bakery but have a substantial selection of dairy-free and vegan Flaxjacks
Read more about flax allergen information and our gluten-free policy and see our range of gluten-free porridges and mueslis.
Allergen Testing
We are happy to arrange allergen testing for trade customers on request.
Nuts
Flaxseed is not a nut. Its pleasant, nutty flavour makes it a delicious and nutritious alternative for people who cannot eat nuts.
Gluten
Flaxseed is naturally gluten-free. It is unrelated to wheat, barley, rye and other cereals containing gluten.
