Flaxseed is Naturally Gluten-Free
Flaxseed — also known as linseed — is completely unrelated to wheat and other cereal grains and is naturally gluten-free.
Wheat, barley and rye contain gluten. Oats contain a different but related protein called avenin, which most people with coeliac disease can tolerate. At Flax Farm, any oats we use are certified gluten-free.
Flaxseed comes from a completely different family of plants. It contains no gluten and is generally well tolerated, including by many people with sensitive digestion.
If you are concerned about tolerating flaxseed, see our page on flaxseed for sensitive digestion.

Flaxseed in a Gluten-Free Diet has many uses
A soothing alternative
Use flaxseed to make breakfasts, porridges, muesli, crackers, cakes, biscuits and breads. Fill up on it, enjoy it. When you’ve been having problems with gluten intolerance, flaxseed can be just the thing. Flaxseed is rich in mucilage, which is soothing and kind to a digestive system that has been damaged by wheat or gluten.
Flax Farm is always wheat-free and gluten-free
Because we at Flax Farm are so well aware of the damage wheat and gluten can do, you can be assured you will never find wheat in any of our products, and all are completely gluten-free too.

Flax might help you feel better too
Flax is a seed, not a grain and is nutritionally superior in protein, minerals, polyphenols (lignans), essential fatty acids (especially omega-3) and is almost totally free of starches and sugars. It is a very low glycaemic index food. Added to other foods it helps lower their GI and reduce the sugar spike. So out with the wheat and in with linseed; see how much difference it can make for you.
Benefits of linseed in a wheat-free, gluten-free diet

- Ground flaxseed is a versatile food that can be part of your wheat-free, gluten-free meals.
- Flaxseed is more than just a typical “free-from” food. A lot of “free-from” foods are mainly starch-based, like teff, potato or rice. Flaxseed is a rich source of protein, antioxidants and omega-3.
- Flaxseed can be used to provide important dietary fibres that feed the good bugs of your gut biome.
Using Flaxseed in a Gluten-Free Diet
Flaxseed can be used in breakfasts, porridges, muesli, crackers, cakes, biscuits and breads. Its soluble fibre forms a soft mucilage when mixed with liquid, making it particularly useful in gluten-free cooking and baking.

More Than Just Wheat-Free
Flaxseed is naturally gluten-free and brings useful fibre, protein, omega-3 ALA and lignans to the diet. It can help make gluten-free meals more substantial and satisfying.
