What is Gluten and What does Gluten-Free Really Mean?
Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and their close relatives. These cereals are allergens and must be clearly identified on food labelling in the UK and EU.
To be labelled gluten-free, food must contain less than 20 ppm gluten.
All Flax Farm products are gluten-free and contain well below 20 ppm.
Flax
Flax is naturally gluten-free and completely unrelated to gluten-containing cereals. It is also particularly useful for helping to keep the digestive tract — including the gut microbiome — healthy, comfortable and regular.
Many gluten-free foods are low in the types of fibre that feed beneficial gut bacteria. Flax provides an excellent range of fibres to help support a healthy gut microbiome.
All Flax Farm Products are Gluten-Free
Some Flax Farm products contain oats. Oats must always be highlighted on food labels, even when they are gluten-free. Oats do not contain gluten; they contain a similar protein called avenin, which even people with coeliac disease can usually tolerate. Ingredients can be contaminated during harvesting, milling and processing. So, to be certain, they have to be laboratory tested and shown to contain 20 ppm gluten. All oats used in Flax Farm products are always certified gluten-free and are shown in the ingredients as gluten-free oats or GF oats.
Flax Farm makes gluten-free products and operates a strict no-gluten policy. We do not use wheat, barley or rye flour in our production areas.
Need more than Gluten-free?
Some people do not tolerate oats well. Flax Farm has a delicious range of Luxury, Oat-Free Porridges and Oat-Free Flaxjacks

Ground flaxseed is a useful ingredient for gluten-free baking. Our flaxseed milling and oil-pressing premises are used only for flaxseed, and no gluten-containing cereals are handled there
Flax Porridge and Muesli
Made with our freshly milled flaxseed, certified gluten-free oats, seeds, fruits and spices. No gluten-containing cereals are used.
Our gluten-free oats are supplied by Morning Foods and are certified gluten-free.
