LSA, Australian favourite way to eat linseed

LSA is simple to make, flavoursome and really good for you. Here is the recipe for LSA. LSA has been a favourite at Flax Farm ever since the first time an Aussie came to the Flax Farm stall at Borough Market and told us about it. Aussies it seems are totally addicted to LSA and sprinkle it over everything. It is a brilliant way of getting your EFA’s (essential fatty acids, omega-3, 6 and 9) directly from the seeds they come in with all their natural goodness. LSA is a special blend of Linseed, Sunflower seeds and Almonds. You’ll be surprised how good these three simple seeds taste together; perhaps it’s because it contains an almost perfect balance of omega-3,6 and 9 fatty acids…

LSA recipe

Ingredients:

LSA is simply, by volume or weight:

3 parts Linseed,

2 parts Sunflower seeds (or sesame seeds) and

1 part Almonds

Method:

Put it all in a grinder and grind to a powder. (If you don’t want to bother with grinding your own or haven’t got a grinder ready ground linseed meal is available from Flax Farm, ground almonds are easily bought in the shops and you can use the sunflower  or sesame seeds whole.)

Sprinkle LSA over everything; breakfast cereals, salads, fruit, desserts, baking and of course ice cream.

Omega-3, 6 & 9

Linseed is a rich source of omega-3, from sunflower seeds you get omega-6 and almonds give you omega-9.

For the nutritional geeks that is omega-3, alpha-linolenic acid, omega-6, linoleic acid and omega-9, oleic acid.
